Improvements to the petrol engine’s economy and emissions in 2009 rendered the diesel all but redundant in the Aygo range and Toyota dropped it to make the petrol the only engine choice. Like its sister car the Citroen C1, Toyota Aygo safety has been given a three-star rating by Euro NCAP. All Aygo models have ABS with electronic brake force distribution along with twin airbags. Side and thorax airbags became standard on all variants from July 2013. Previously, higher-spec models only added the side airbags and curtain airbags optional on Aygo+ and Sport models. Other compartments around the cabin including trays and cupholders add another 25 litres of storage while all but the most basic Aygo models have a 50/50 split rear bench which helps reach a compromise between extra luggage space and carrying passengers .Toyota again revised the Aygo at the beginning of 2012, where fuel consumption improved again for the manual car to 65.7mpg and CO2 emissions now dip below 100g/km at 99g/km. With either gearbox, the willing and rev-happy three-cylinder engine does a good job of propelling the lightweight Aygo in town and on the motorway.
